One interesting thing is that the class has multiple teachers; one for every day of the week. This is good because it helps me get used to different voices. There is only one, Todo-sensei, which I have trouble understanding.
Friday morning I went to a toy show, and got a couple nice Touma pieces (he is a designer whose toys I collect). Friday evening, Kazu-san, another toy designer and an all-around great guy (we sometimes call him "the nicest person in the world") took me out to dinner for okonomiyaki.
Okonomiyaki is a table-cooked pancake; it's on the right. This one was filled with all kinds of different seafood. Oiishikatta desu! (It was delicious.) On the left is gomoku yakisoba, fried noodles with vegetables and pork. We also had had monja, which I've never had before...it's another fried batter dish, but the batter is thinner than okonomiyaki and the cooked result is a bit like fried cheese. You eat it directly off the griddle with a little spatula.
Saturday was rainy and I went square dancing with Edo 8s again.
Sunday, as part of the toy show I went to on Friday, Touma was painting in the store and sketching for people. Here he is painting:
He did a nice sketch for me and customized and signed a newly-released Knuckle Bear for me.
I got a surprise Monday morning when I discovered that he had blogged about my coming to the show. Here's the blog entry in Japanese. Here's a Google translation; he's writing in very colloquial Japanese which is hard to translate but you can get the general idea.
